Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-01-21
Our Core Principle
FluidType is designed with privacy as the foundation. Your typing data stays on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store your keystrokes, input content, clipboard data, or personal dictionary.
This policy explains what data we may collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
What We Do NOT Collect
We want to be clear about what we never collect:
- Keystrokes and input content — Your typing is never transmitted or logged
- Personal dictionary and vocabulary — Your custom words stay on your device
- Clipboard content — We never access your clipboard
- Documents and app content — We cannot see what you type in other apps
- Advertising identifiers — We do not use any advertising or tracking SDKs
- Cross-site tracking data — We do not track your browsing activity
What We May Collect
We aim to collect as little as possible. The following may be collected in specific circumstances:
Website Analytics (Optional)
Our website may use privacy-friendly analytics (such as Plausible) to understand traffic patterns and improve the website. This does not include any data from the input method itself. Website analytics are aggregated and are not intended to track individual users.
Support Communications
When you contact us for support, we receive the information you provide, including your email address and message content. We use this only to respond to your inquiry and may retain it for quality improvement.
Purchase Information
If you purchase a license, payment processing is handled by our payment provider. We receive limited transaction information (such as order ID and license status) but not your full payment details.
Local Data Storage
FluidType stores the following data locally on your Mac:
- User preferences — Your settings and configuration choices
- Personal dictionary — Custom words and phrases you add
- Usage statistics — Word frequency data to improve suggestions (never transmitted)
- License information — Your activation status
All local data is stored in your user Library folder and can be deleted by removing the application and its associated data folders.
AI Features (Optional)
AI features are strictly opt-in and disabled by default. When you choose to enable them:
What is Sent
- Only the specific text you choose to process (e.g., text rewriting, voice transcription)
- Your ongoing typing stream is never uploaded automatically
- You must explicitly trigger AI features for any data to be sent
Third-Party AI Services
AI features may use third-party providers (such as OpenAI) to process your requests. When using these services:
- We configure requests with zero data retention when the provider supports it
- Your content is not used to train AI models
- We do not store AI prompts or outputs on our servers
Please review the privacy policies of third-party AI providers for their specific practices.
Disabling AI Features
You can disable AI features at any time in the app settings. When disabled, no network communication related to AI occurs.
Network Communication
FluidType may connect to the internet for:
- Update checks — Periodic checks for new versions (can be disabled)
- License verification — One-time activation and periodic validation
- AI features — Only when explicitly enabled and triggered by you
Core input functionality works completely offline. You can use FluidType without any internet connection.
Data Retention
We minimize data collection and retain data only as long as necessary:
- Support emails — Retained for up to 2 years for reference
- Purchase records — Retained as required by law for accounting purposes
- Website analytics — Aggregated and anonymized, retained for up to 1 year
Your Rights
You have the following rights regarding your data:
- Access — Request a copy of any personal data we hold about you
- Deletion — Request deletion of your personal data
- Correction — Request correction of inaccurate data
- Export — Export your local data (dictionary, preferences) from the app
- Opt-out — Disable analytics and AI features at any time
To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@fluidtype.net.
Children's Privacy
FluidType is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have collected data from a child, please contact us immediately.
International Data Transfers
If you use AI features, your data may be processed in countries where our AI service providers operate. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for any international data transfers.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice on our website or through the application. Continued use of FluidType after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
